Are you passionate about connecting children and young people to wildlife, nature, and the environment? Would you like to join a community group dedicated to preserving and enhancing one of Southampton's most diverse local nature reserves? Look no further than Sholing Valleys Study Centre!

Our volunteer-led group has been working for over 30 years to protect and improve Millers Pond Local Nature Reserve while providing educational opportunities to engage the public in this unique site. This 20-acre reserve in Sholing is one of Southampton's largest and most diverse, with a pond, woodland, and acid grasslands that support an abundance of wildlife.

As a children, youth, or community engagement volunteer with Sholing Valleys, you'll play a vital role in delivering nature-based sessions and events for local groups, including schools, brownies, scouts, and other community organisations. You'll lead activities such as pond dipping, bird watching, nest building, and tree planting, inspiring curiosity and respect for the environment in children and young people. In addition, you'll help plan and deliver engaging activities for various age groups, participate in our annual open days and events, and have the opportunity to join our Education and Outreach sub-committee.

Whether you have aspirations to build experience working with children and young people or just a keen interest in developing and sharing your knowledge relating to nature and wildlife, we welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Our volunteer roles are highly flexible, and we can tailor your involvement to your skills, interests, and availability.

If you're ready to make a difference in your community while having fun and learning new things, get in touch for a conversation in joining us as a volunteer.
