Sholing Valleys Study Centre
& Miller's Pond Nature Reserve
A bit about the Nature Reserve
Miller's Pond is one of Southampton's oldest and most diverse Local Nature Reserves. It covers just under 20 acres. Sholing Valleys Study Centre has been working as a charity since Since 1988. We have two main objectives. We conserve Miller's Pond Local Nature Reserve, and educate the public about the wildlife found here.

Folklore & Foraging: Yule Wreath Workshop
Sunday 7th December -11:00 am - 2.30pm
Join Lucie for a workshop of foraging, folktales and organic craft.
We'll begin with a cup of mulled winter warmer (non-alcoholic), followed by a guided walk around the Sholing Valley nature reserve to forage for our materials. Together we'll explore the abundant and ancient folkloric history of the yule-period and its associated botanicals, as well as the origins of wreath-making as a folk practice.
You’ll be guided through the process of how to make your wreath and provided with all the necessary materials, ready to take your creation home and hang on your door.
There will also be an optional 'pick a card' oracle card reading at the end of the workshop.
Please arrive around 10 minutes before the start time and wear sensible shoes/warm clothes for our walk around the nature reserve.
Please also bring a basket or bag for carrying your foraged materials; spares will be available just in case.
Included in your ticket
All materials and tuition to create your wreath, a folklore and foraging walk, access to the Sholing Valley workshop space including facilities and refreshments are included.
There are a limited number of lower priced tickets available for those who would benefit from paying a reduced ticket fee. If you are able to cover the full amount, please allow others who may benefit to have priority for these tickets. Lucie is self-funded and self-employed so any support you provide through attending these workshops goes a long way.

Hedge Laying training session
Sunday 25th Jan
10am-3pm
Want to improve a local area?
Would like to find out more about nature?
Want to do some light physical activity?
Thanks to the CPRE for their funding, this month we'll be heading back for our second hedge-laying training session.
No previous experience is necessary. We'll take you through what we are doing, and why we are doing it, and how to do it safely. We will be led by Stuart from R&H Countryside.
There's also the option of litter picking: The less litter there is the less likely people are to drop it!
The reserve is run by our wonderful team of volunteers. We would not be able to manage without your help, and every act makes the site better. We appreciate all of you.
Our Study Centre has toilets that will be open for use.
Our tasks are always open to non-members, but if you would like to help support Sholing Valleys financially and become a member, it's very easy to join. Just follow the link
